The Powerful First Impression

There are a variety of significant stepping stones that we take toward success in our lifetime where we are required to create a dynamic first impression and in so doing, put ourselves at the mercy of various decision makers.

Our pre-school class photo day; let’s face it, those photographs have a way of popping up at the most inopportune times especially in our current virtual social network world - not the greatest impression you want to make when the day of photos comes around and this so happened to be the same week the tooth fairy came to visit, or Mum had an inspirational moment with the hair scissors.

Throughout our school years there are a variety of impressionable challenges - dance or singing auditions, your first boy girl party or social, beauty pageants, debate team - all social building blocks toward a reputation and gradually defining who we aspire to be as we progress toward life out of the “classroom”.

Our first job interview requires us to create a dynamic first impression. Many of us have to purchase an official “interview” outfit, not even knowing at that stage of our lives what type of two-piece suit will flatter our body and which colours will best bring out our eyes and make our skin glow. To many, it sounds ridiculous, the thought of a specific colour choice in our clothing being a contributing factor to whether or not we are a suitable candidate for the job.

Style and colour are extremely powerful tools toward creating a dynamic first impression. When talking style, it is the fit, design and elegance that your outfit projects and when talking choice of colour, it is your attitude, confidence and professionalism that are projected. I have experienced a number of pre-interview, pre-promotion, pre-guest speaker appearance clientele seeking my expertise and guidance in this matter as they are fully aware that their image and talent go hand-in-hand when creating a powerful impression in front of their pertinent audience.

In this crazy age of the eternal rat race, we are so overwhelmed by the pace of our respective responsibilities and lifestyles that often our appearance is the first aspect of ourselves to suffer some neglect. We hire an accountant, a lawyer or a tax consultant to simplify our lives, so why not a personal stylist to assist you in taking back control of your wardrobe and the impression you project to all you come into contact with.

This a great tool for many women who have high profile careers or just simply are so busy they don’t have the time to devote to shopping or trying on clothing. I provide a coaching element within my programme that imparts knowledge, which grows to become a liberating skill. Above all, this provides elevated confidence and that is the key to projecting a lasting impression.
