Questions and Answers
Q1. How did you get into your chosen line of work?
I studied extensively and so academically I have the right background for the position, and my personality is also suited for my line of work. I started at Clover 19 years ago as the Advertising Manager and then moved over to corporate communications. 8 years ago I was given the opportunity to take on Clover’s corporate social responsibility project "Mamma Afrika". I have been privileged to work for a company that has given me many opportunities to grow and be promoted. They have supported me and helped me to do my best at whatever I put my hands to.
Q2. What do you love most about your current job?
I love the excitement and variety of the job. I oversee a combination of all Clover’s internal and external communications, as well as the social responsibility project "Mama Afrika" so it is a diverse portfolio of work that I enjoy. I also love that my job is not always the same; it is constantly changing and presenting me with new challenges. It is lovely to work for a company that trusts you and allows you to develop and grow in your position. I also believe that I am naturally a person who will grab something and give my all to make it work.

Women are the backbone of society. They have the heart and nurturing ability to carry the society. In this way woman have a profound impact on society and the business world.
However, I believe it is important not to expect recognition or respect just because you are a woman in business. Respect and recognition should be earned through hard work and commitment. Never expect something just because you are a woman, but earn the respect and recognition you deserve by serving your community.
Q4. What challenges do you feel women face in the workplace?
Women still face the ongoing challenge of looking after their homes and families whilst trying to have a career and take care of themselves.
Q5. Does any particular woman stand out to you as a brilliant leader? Why?
The two women that I admire most are Hillary Clinton, because she is a strong powerful woman, and Graca Machel, whom I admire and look up to for her incredible sense of style and for her ability to do so well despite terribly difficult circumstances.
Q6. What unique value do you think a woman brings to the workplace?
The fact that a woman cares and has a nurturing heart is the special quality that she brings to the work place. Women are warm and comforting and care about others. They also think differently than men, plan well and are good at multi-tasking, which are all excellent qualities in the workplace.
Q7. What advice would you give someone starting out in their life/career?
I would advise them to get the best qualifications they can get. Then to look for what they love to do and to do it with passion and determination. My mother always used to say, ‘if you cry on your way to work each day, then that is not where you should be.’ You should love what you do and be happy in your work.
Q8. What has been the hardest lesson you have learnt in business?
To think twice before you speak, and that it is not necessary for you to always be right.
