Dear Reader
Last night I lay in bed and was entertained by TED. Now, before you get all worried that this is some raunchy newsletter let me clarify. TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a conference providing insights from leaders in the world of Technology, Entertainment & Design. The scope has broadened in the last few years and you can find short keynote addresses around some of the most fascinating subjects. They in turn have a free website (www.ted.com) that provides access to the most riveting talks by some truly remarkable people. All for free. Mahala! The reasons I wanted to bring it to your attention is this: firstly, in the world we live in, knowledge is power. But even more importantly, in my opinion, insight and wisdom built on knowledge is power. Gone are the days when access to knowledge was limited. Rather, we live in a world where knowledge is free via the World Wide Web. Your ability to engage with this knowledge and to strategically integrate it into your world is an invaluable asset. Secondly, the time I spend on TED and other similar platforms is a crucial contributor to building my energy. I have a strength that is called INPUT. This strength (as described by Markus Buckingham in "Now, discover your strengths") describes someone who has a craving to know more, someone who likes to collect and archive all kinds of information. TED plays right into this strength and also feeds a second strength of mine called IDEATION. My question to you is, do you know your strengths? In knowing your strengths and working to your strengths, you can optimize your impact in the workplace and at home. You can essentially build in activities that feed these strengths and you feel far more effective and engaged in your day-to-day life. With this in mind, I would like to invite you to a Strengths seminar I am hosting on the 5th of October 2010 in Johannesburg. The cost of the full day seminar is R1,350 (ex VAT) per person – this includes getting your Marcus Buckinham strengths book, all catering and venue costs and the facilitation for the day. If you would like to attend, please email

. This seminar is open to men and women, young and old. I would to congratulate our winners of the Revitalisation hampers from from our last newsletter: Adelaide Msezane, Heidi Andrews, Opal-Jazmine, Margaret Isaac and Gilda Galvad. Have a wonderful Heritage Day. Rachel
