Dear Reader
Synchronicity is a fascinating subject. Over the last two weeks I have engaged in a number of meetings and experiences that have all reinforced one key idea, which is: “each person’s actions matter”.
I realise that all too often we look to world leaders to be the world changers. I know that there are many reasons why we do this, and yet somehow in doing this we embrace powerlessness in a world that requires each person to take responsibility.
This synchronicity has caused me to look very intentionally at my life and my little world and to ask myself the question, “What action can I take that will positively impact the life (or lives) of others?” This is an incredibly powerful question, and is in fact the question that is being posed by the organisers of Nelson Mandela Day.
Mandela Day is being celebrated on the 18th July 2010. What is it all about?
Mandela Day is an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and a global call to action for people to recognise their individual ability to make an imprint and change the world around them. The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Nelson Mandela has given 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community.
Mandela Day is a global social movement – an umbrella idea – that does not discriminate. It’s open and lets in and embraces every organisation that does good, whilst enabling people to serve their community and improve their lives.
Mandela Day is not a holiday – it is a day for all of us to opt in and show that we can all make an impact. My question to myself and others is: what can you do with your 67 minutes? I am inviting our readers to write in to us and share what they will be doing on Mandela Day. Please email me directly on
