Not everybody is fond of taking risks. But often when we do take the leap, it can yield unexpected rewards, leading us to be more adventurous the next time we are faced with a decision.

I am having the strangest and most uplifting experience. I have been taking risks and the response is amazing me. I have just received an e-mail from the editor of a newspaper praising an article I sent him as, ‘great, even by your already high standards’. I sent the article over a month ago, just before Christmas, and had assumed that he didn’t like it. What is giving me a skip in my step is that the article is radical. In it, I said it like it is.

I did not tailor it to popular palates and I did not soften my insight. I took a risk in writing and sending it and the response is so positive. Often, we don’t quite reach our potential or feel fulfilled because we are compromising and taking a cautious route. We feel that we are too much for people, so we tone ourselves down and then struggle with settling for less than we know we are. We live in a world we feel is not our home when we are not making it our own. We are not living in it fully, which is not fair to ourselves or anyone else.

The way to make this world your home, no matter who you are, is to be yourself without restraint. It is already your home! The whole put you here as you are, so any argument with that is stupid and arrogant. Trust the whole. Although society invests relentlessly in killing your individuality, life ultimately rewards you for being yourself. Strange but true.

With clients, lately, I have been telling it like it is, too. I listen to their needs but do not change my message or approach to please them. I present who I am and speak out the way I see it. And it works. It’s what people really need and it is very good for business. But most of all, it makes me so very happy.

Take a chance on yourself.
