Making real, sustainable changes for the better in one's life is not always easy - but it is something we all dream of doing. Kate Emmerson's latest coaching tip offers some thoughts on where, and how, to begin.

You are what you are today from what you thought you were yesterday, and tomorrow you will become what you think you are today.

However, you are so much more than your past beliefs, actions, thoughts and words, because you do have the power and choice to make your life different. Doing today differently will create a new future! Is it easy? Not always. Is it possible? Definitely. Is it rewarding? That depends upon you.

Whenever you wish to make changes in your life, regardless of what they are, the very first thing that has to happen is a raising of your own standards. If you contemplate this fact - i.e. that your present standards and habits have got you this far in life - in order to effect change and growth you then need to raise the bar and stretch towards a new vision of yourself.

Step two is to alter any self limiting beliefs that keep you where you are, and thirdly, you have to make a decision and act upon it. Insight is a waste of time without action to do something differently.

It is vitally important to remember that you have all the resources you need within in order to live your best life in the way that really works for you! Perhaps now you can start looking at what it is that you really, really want from your life.

The biggest challenge with making changes in your life is learning to trust yourself again and putting yourself at the top of your priority list. So grab a big piece of cardboard and do some creative planning about your dreams and goals in life. Start looking at how you long to live your life, the big picture of who you really and are and what stamp you wish to leave on the planet. Most of all have fun with it, as you are the only one who is control of your life. Even when huge challenges come along, you are in control of your responses.
