You've just proposed a new project to your team, and you have responses flying at you from all directions: 'That's great, let's get started right now, I know exactly who we can use' or 'Let's just wait a minute, have you considered how much detail is involved?' or 'I have the most brilliant idea, why don't we...' or even 'Have you thought about how those who aren't here are going to feel about this? Maybe we should ask them first and make sure they're happy.'

There was a time within the South African work context when teams were largely mono-cultural. As we went into the 1990’s we moved towards a multicultural work environment which focused largely on building relationships between black and white. At that point in our history it was what we needed.

Leaders possess qualities that we all aspire to achieve in our own patches of sunlight. Thousands of books have been churned through the mill, and millions of people have worshipped at the altar of leadership above all else.

Managing people is hard: really, seriously, HARD! And you really only realise this after managing people for at least a year or so, although it usually feels a lot longer. For me, the first year of management was like being in a honeymoon period.
