Elmi is a transplant surgeon at Groote Schuur Hospital. In October 2008, Elmi and her transplant team became the first team in the world to transplant a kidney from an HIV-positive donor to an HIV-positive recipient and have since performed nine similar procedures.

I have many big dreams for my family that keep me inspired throughout the year. You need to have dreams and hopes to work towards that will keep you motivated and encouraged through the hard times. However, increasingly I am realising that while we hold onto the big dreams we have, these dreams can only be realised through the daily small accomplishments of routine, practise, perseverance and growth.
