| Why We Hate Shopping For Clothes - Part 2 |

I have a family friend’s son’s baptism and birthday party coming up this Sunday. The invitation is not a formal one and there is no dress code specified. They are close family friends and have a relaxed approach to dressing for the occasion. I, on the other hand, being the fashionista that I am, don’t have a relaxed approach to dressing! I’m a planner, I love planning my outfits….it’s what I do.
Once again I am reminded how appreciated and much needed my service as a personal stylist is. My clientele don’t need to go from store to store, I shop for them, I know exactly what I’m looking for, because I’ve developed a profile on them and a personal relationship with them. I am their consultant; I provide advice and insight into what needs to be purchased to enhance not only their wardrobe but their body type, proportions and ultimately their confidence. They have a pleasurable experience once a season or regularly if they so require. They can avoid an un-pleasurable wardrobe fitting having to call out to the fitting room attendant while half naked, asking to find them another size, only to be told, she/he can’t leave their post and can’t find anyone on the floor to help, because I have pre-selected the wardrobe items to suit their body type and proportions. So now I’m subconsciously reminding myself, “you have so many lovely items at home and in the studio, why are you wasting your time shopping for something new.” I suppose I’m just a girl who, like others, loves to find an extra special piece for an extra special occasion! But my trusty wardrobe has been built up over many years with classic pieces and amazing accessories - of course I can find something that will work perfectly for the baptism, so I head back home. I’m ready for the baptism on Sunday and I feel like I am wearing a new outfit. I have, of course, in true fashionista style, updated a classic piece with a pair of comfy fitted ¾ denims and some denim leather gladiator thongs to complete the look! I can look feminine, successfully covering my problem areas and I can lift up my 2 year old son when he puts his arms up to be held without feeling self conscious and still feel like I haven’t lost my glam factor. |
